Our Weekend in the Motor City

Last Thursday Mommy and I got to fly on an airplane! We met Daddy in Detroit for a long weekend visiting friends. I was so excited at the airport, I could hardly contain myself. Grannie and Paw-Paw were headed out around the same time to fly to Tulsa for a wedding and to visit Grannie's family. They kept me entertained by looking outside at all the airplanes. I just wanted to know "When is it going to be my turn to get on an airplane?"

We arrived safely and Daddy picked us up at the airport. Considering we had to run through Memphis really fast, I was very good. I slept most of the second flight. But there was no sleeping on the first one - I was waaay too excited! I wanted to keep looking out the window the entire flight, and I kept making sure the lady next to us was looking out, too. (It's a good thing she was really sweet and didn't mind being tapped on the shoulder every two minutes. She had a great sense of humor.)

Friday Daddy had to work, so Mommy and I had lunch with some of her former co-workers at The Alibi. Their salad and pizza were so yummy! Afterwards we went to visit our old neighbors, Mr. Steve, Mrs. Jen, Stephanie (3 1/2 years old), and Samantha (15 months old). We played for a couple of hours. I had such a great time! Mommy and Mrs. Jen took us for a walk down to Starbucks. I got to ride with Stephanie in her wagon.

That evening we met Fr. Mike, Mr. Kerry, Mrs. Nancy, Mr. Michael, and Mrs. Donna for dinner. After dinner we walked to the Astoria Pastry Shop - YUMMY! I picked out a big sugar cookie covered in sprinkles!

The next day we met Uncle Eric, Aunt Amy, and Kayla. We had lunch at Kruse and Muer, then went to Cook's Dairy Farm and the Seymour Lake Park. At the Dairy Farm we saw a lot of cows!

Then we went to the park. There were lots of swings and slides. We had a fabulous time. The weather was absolutely perfect!

We stayed with Uncle Kenneth and Aunt Erika. Daddy took me for a walk outside to play in the fall leaves. It was great. I loved the crunching sound when I walked. I had fun kicking them, too!

At their house we had dinners with Mr. Carl and Ms. Gretchen, Mr. Paul and Mrs. Judy, and Mr. Greg, Mrs. Teresa, and Erin. A special thanks to Erin for letting me borrow some toys to play with and a booster seat while we were in town!

Sunday morning we met Ms. Cheryl for breakfast at the Original Pancake House, then walked to a park a couple blocks away. Afterwards we went to Mass at the Cathedral. I got to see lots of friends there, including my Detroit Grandmas - Mrs. Odell and Ms. Marcella! (Thanks for my gifts!!)

It was a great fun weekend, but alas, we had to return home. Monday morning Mommy had to wake me up at 4:30 AM - that's 3:30 AM central time! She kept talking to me and rubbing my back to try to wake me gently, but I wasn't budging. Then she asked me "William, do you want to go ride on an airplane with Mommy and Daddy?" I sat straight up and say "Yea!" So off we went.... Mommy brought a portable DVD player with a Wonder Pets DVD - it was so much fun to watch!

But, even that wasn't enough after a while. I was just ready to get off the plane!
