"Paque" is the French word for Easter. During Eastertime in South Louisiana, it is a tradition to die dozens of eggs and get together with friends and family over for some "egg-paque-ing" (pronounced "pock", like rock). It's a Cajun tradition! Mommy grew up doing this with her family. Her Paw-Paw was the most difficult person to pacque eggs with - he knew all the tricks!
The tradition begins with boiling and dyeing the eggs with family. For pictures of that process, see the previous post. That was fun!
Easter morning, after church and my baskets, we headed to Lafayette to Aunt Jean's and Uncle John's house (Paw-Paw's sister). All my cousins were there, each family with their own basket of eggs to paque! Soon the egg-paque-ing began.
Here's how Egg Paque-in works:
I get my egg....you get yours. You're on top, I'm on bottom and we knock them together, "rock, paper, scissors" style. The objective is to crack the other person's egg. Each match crowns a champion who will then go on to pokking another relative's egg, until a final winner is selected.
All "big ends" will be paque-ed against "big ends". Chicken eggs can only paque chicken eggs.
So I paque-ed with Paw-Paw first. I chose a blue egg!

My egg cracked, but I didn't care. I just reached in the basket and found another one - this time, green! Now it's Daddy's turn to paque with me!

That egg broke too. But it didn't stop me! I was having fun... Next, a yellow egg against Mommy's pink one!
It broke too. Now... a blue egg again. Grannie's turn!
This was lots of fun! Then I got to eat a boiled egg - the best part of the whole experience!
